Case has launched its new D-Series motor graders, the 12.5-tonne (13.8-U.S.-ton) 836D and 16.65-t (18.35-U.S.-t) 856D models, in standard and all-wheel-drive configurations. The manufacturer says the new graders have a more comfortable cabin, excellent mouldboard control, and a Dual Power engine for greater productivity in high gear. Some of the new graders’ features debuted in a 2023 update to the previous 836C and 856C models.
A More Comfortable Cab For Sustained Productivity
The low-profile cab of the 836D and 856D lowers the graders’ overall height while giving operators the assurance of rollover protection system (ROPS) and falling object protection system (FOPS) compliance. The heated, air-suspended operator’s seat supplies a great view of the mouldboard and surroundings.
A new touchscreen display on top of a redesigned front console provides input from the standard rearview camera and machine operation data. Another console to the right includes a new electronic hand throttle, keyed ignition, a cupholder, and USB charging ports. A storage compartment on the left has a rubber strap and a net to keep items securely in place.
D-Series Joysticks, Levers & Mouldboard Control
The Case 836D and 856D graders are available with electrohydraulic joysticks or zero-play mechanical levers. The new joysticks reside on the adjustable armrests and have roller switches and buttons for the graders’ hydraulic and steering functions. Case’s TwinLift feature empowers the joystick to move both lift cylinders simultaneously for easier mouldboard positioning.
Case offers buyers a choice of different mouldboard widths and extensions. The board has a roller-mounted, encapsulated slewing ring to prevent backlash, curtail wear, and support high mechanical torque for maximum control. A stalwart A-shaped frame and a central saddle keep the cutting edge stable and controllable. The 836D and 856D have fewer mouldboard greasing points for simpler, faster maintenance.
Dual Power Engine & Creep Mode
Case equips the 836D and 856D with a 6.7-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine from FPT. A Dual Power system automatically increases motor power to 156 and 190 horsepower (116 and 142 kilowatts), respectively, when the grader runs in fourth to sixth gears. This ensures maximum power is available as travel speed increases.
The engine complies with emissions standards using a Hi-eSCR2 exhaust aftertreatment system with a maintenance-free diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and selective catalytic reduction (SCRoF). It is compatible with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and other synthetics such as coal to liquid (CTL), biomass to liquid (BTL), and gas to liquid (GTL) fuels.
An Ergopower transmission with a torque converter provides the graders with smooth, automatic gear shifts, while a fully automatic differential lock increases traction. All-wheel-drive Case D-Series models offer a creep mode with front traction for extremely low machine speeds and compaction work. Optional 24-inch (610-millimetre) tyres are available for 4WD and 2WD models for a smoother ride over uneven ground.
Case D-Series Options
The D-Series 836D and 856D support popular 2D and 3D automatic blade control systems. Other options include an overload clutch, a 5-tooth ripper, extra counterweights, and LED working lights.
A Case SiteWatch remote fleet management subscription comes as standard with the new graders. The manufacturer also offers after-sales services for diagnostics, planned maintenance, fluid analysis, and an extended warranty.
